Landscape Design is Important!

You couldn't build a house with no plans right? You couldn't bake a cake without a recipe? The same holds true for your landscaping. While it is possible to start with some grass, maybe add some bushes here or there, and plunk a tree wherever is easiest, it is not the best way to do things. It is best to start out with a vision, an idea, and get that idea on paper. Then consider site conditions. Which side of your home gets full sun all day long? Which area is in deep shade? Are there wet or rocky areas? What about views? Do you have a million dollar view to protect and frame, or maybe a view into your neighbors kitchen you would like to block? All these factors and many more go into a successful landscape design. Refine your vision to fit your site conditions. Then draw out and measure where exactly everything will go. Before you touch shovel to dirt, make sure you have a solid landscape plan to build on and refer to. Otherwise you might end up with a hodgepodge of conflicting elements, shade plants dying in the hot sun, or a patio under 2 inches of water all spring!
